Healing Human-Water Connection

Grandmother Carole walks to help heal the sacred waters and rebuild the human to water connection. Grandmother Carole is a Penobscot lineage(American Indian) through her grandmother, but wasn’t fully aware of what that meant until she was in her 30’s. She set out to reclaim her heritage and now she walks to help heal the Sacred Water and rebuild the human-to-water connection. ThisTreesister's series is to open our hearts and minds to cultures who have treasured our planet and could share with us insights that we can use to become more connected with nature and each other.

Terra: Welcome everyone. Thank you so much for joining us for the Indigenous Wisdom for the Earth series. My name is Terra Canova and I am the Network Relations Manager for TreeSisters. Our guest today is Grandmother Carole. She is a Pipe Carrier and Bundle Keeper. Grandmother Carole was taken to the water while on a vision quest. In 2011 she danced her last Sundance and began her journey for the Sacred Water. Inspired by the water walks of Grandmother Josephine Mandamin, and the words and work of Grandmothers Mona Polacca, and Agnes Pilgrim, Carole took up the call of Grandmother Mona Polacca for all women to come back to the water. Carole walks to help heal the sacred waters and rebuild the human to water connection. Grandmother Carole, thank you so very much for being with us today. Would you like to start off with a prayer? Grandmother Carole: : I would thank you very much, and welcome to everyone. Today, as we gather in this sacred circle with clarity and intent, to honor our duty, to live in balance and harmony with all of the living things on this planet, we thank you to the previous Seven Generations for the opportunity to call to the next Seven Generations, letting them know that we bring our hearts and our minds together as one human family. We turn our hearts and our minds to the relatives, the winged ones. They greet us each morning with their beautiful songs. Flying over our heads, they remind us to enjoy and appreciate life. The eagle has offered himself to carry our prayers. We turn our hearts and our minds to our relatives from the animal nations. Those who walk, swim, crawl and borrow; the creatures from the water. The whales, the dolphins, the fish, the turtles, the seen and the unseen. They have come to bring us beauty, to teach us many things. The greatest of these things is unconditional love. We turn our hearts and our minds to the gift of the source of all life. The Sacred Water. For nothing lives without water. We acknowledge the known and the unknown. And we honor all those who are instructed to cleanse and purify the water. We turn our hearts and our minds to all our relations. The ancestors that came before us and all those yet to come. We gather in this sacred circle with one heart and one mind to accept our responsibility of stewardship. For all the four legged, the crawlers, the winged ones, the finned ones, the swimmers, the standing ones, the stone people, the plant people and our Mother Earth. Now that our hearts and our minds are together, we ask the Creator, to bring a blessing upon all our relations, those that came before us. And those that are yet to come.(speaks a closing in a native language.) Read more...
